While I don’t have the courage to have my own children I keep making gifts for the child of  friends.

I had made a baby sling version for boys when I finally had the opportunity to make a sling for a girl.

Such a cute girl, and a very fashionable one. She resembles my goddaughter as a baby – at that time she did not get a sling, because I had no sewing skills then.

Enquanto não tenho coragem de ter filhos sigo fazendo presentes para o filho dos outros.

Já tinha feito um baby sling versão para meninos quando finalmente tive a oportunidade de fazer um sling para uma menina.

Uma fofura de menina, além de muito fashion. Ela lembra muito minha afilhada quando era bebê – na época ela não ganhou um sling, pois eu ainda não tinha dotes de costureira.

Not having a baby ever stopped me from sewing baby stuff. It actually gives me more time to work on sewing projects for other people’s babies!

After convincing my new boss to buy lots of cute cloths for his baby boy during our business trip to England and Ireland, I drastically reduced the gift options for the baby birth. It was then that I remembered Lost. Yes, LOST the TV series, where Charlie made that fabric carrier for Claire’s baby.

To make sure it was safe for my boss’ baby, I needed to test the ties of my first baby sling with something heavy. Once I proved that it could hold my baby cat Juca, I tried it out on Guga (who is a very big cat). That made me confident enough to try it on Lucy – our 17lbs Pug. Of course after all this pet try outs I had to wash it for hygiene reasons.

Because baby slings are not very popular in Brazil yet, most parents don’t know how to use it here. That’s why I believe it was important to give a demonstration with a doll… but I never thought I would have to explain to my boss why I have a doll!

Não ter um bebê nunca me impediu de costurar coisas para bebês.  Na verdade isto acaba fazendo com que eu tenha mais tempo para trabalhar em projetos de custura para bebês de outras pessoas!

Depois de ter convencido meu novo chefe a comprar um monte de roupas fofinhas para seu bebê durante nossa viagem de negócios a Inglaterra e Irlanda, eu reduzi drasticamente as opções de presentes para quando o bebê nascesse. Foi aí que lembrei do LOST. Sim, LOST a série de TV, onde Charlie fez um carregador de pano para o bebê de Claire.

Para garantir que era segura para o bebê de meu chefe, precisava testar os laços do meu primeiro sling com algo pesado. Depois de provar que conseguia segurar meu gatinho Juca, testei com Guga (que é um gato bem grande). O que me deixou confiante o bastante para experimentar com – nossa Pug de 8kg. Claro que depois de experimentar em todos estes bichos tive que lavá-lo por razões de higiene.

Porque  os baby slings ainda não são muito populares no Brasil, a maioria dos pais  não sabe como usá-los. Por isso achei importante dar uma demonstração com um boneco…  Mas eu nunca imaginei que teria que explicar para meu chefe porque eu tenho um boneco!
