Last winter, when I saw the price of a plain fleece blanket in a department store I decided to buy a couple of yards of fleece and make one myself.
I simply combined two colors in a sequence of rectangle blocks. I kept it on my “unfinished projects” box since I wasn’t sure if I should sew a backing into it.
But because the fabric is so soft and warm itself I decided not to use backing or it would make the blanket heavy.
So now that winter is back again it is finally time for me to use it.

No inverno passado, quando vi o preço de um cobertor simples de soft em uma loja, decidi comprar alguns metros de soft e fazer um.
Eu simplesmente combinei duas cores em uma seqüência de blocos de retângulo. Ele ficou guardado na minha caixa de “projetos inacabados” pois não tinha certeza se eu deveria costurar um forro nele.
Mas porque o tecido em si é tão macio e quente decidi não colocar um forro, caso contrário o cobertor ficaria pesado.
Então, agora que o inverno está de volta finalmente posso usá-lo.

I’ve made a lot of  gifts this year. While a couple of friends are having babies, other are getting married.

Because I was very busy at work I didn’t have time to make another quilt.  So I had to pick a quicker project but with a touch of sophistication.

After hours going through all my magazines I found a different placemat project combining the traditional Nine Patch block with the Seminole technique. In my opinion it looks much better than the magazine.

As a final touch I used the beautiful backing fabric to trim a box and put the placemat set.

Fiz muitos presentes este ano. Enquanto alguns amigos ganharam bebe, mas outros estão casando.

Como a coisa ficou agitada no trabalho, não tive tempo de fazer outra colcha. Por isso, tive que escolher um projeto mais rápido mas com um toque de sofisticação.

Depois de horas procurando em minhas revistas, encontrei um projeto de jogo americano bem diferente, combinando o tradicional bloco Nine Patch com a técnica Seminole. Na minha opinição ficou muito mais bonito que a revista.

Como toque final, usei o lindo decido do verso para forrar uma caixa e colocar todo o jogo americano.

I still didn’t have enough courage to publish a picture with all my fabrics. But one thing I guarantee: it is too much! I’ve tried to organize them in many ways since I started sewing, and from the early beginning I used plastic boxes. These boxes are very practical, but one thing worried me:  the fabric should maintain a pleasant aroma,.

Searching on Google, I found some recipes on how to make sachets for closets. The idea is very simple (and you may have noticed that I am a woman of simple project): flour made sago, fragrance and baking soda – to help dry out the oily fragrance.

I made some prototypes and they came out great: very nice smell and not sticky, perfect to put in all my boxes of fabrics!

Using some cute fabric, I set up a set and gave it to a dear friend, who accompanies me on the findings of quilt from the earliest times.

Some time later, another friend who was getting married  decided to have a bachelorette party (in fact, was a Lingerie shower). To help with the party preparation, I made several sachets of different colors to be distributed to all the girls who were joining us – so they would be able to make their own underwear drawer smell nice. I put them all in a glass case and decorated it with a colored ribbon.

Simple as that! And there we all went to the party. We had lots of fun and at the end, every one went home a little more fragrant!

Ainda não tive coragem de publicar uma foto com todos os meus tecidos. Mas uma coisa, eu garanto: são muitos! Organizei-os de formas diferentes assim que comecei com patchwork, mas desde o começo resolvi acomodá-los em caixas plásticas. São bem práticas, mas uma coisa me preocupava: os tecidos deveriam preservar um aroma agradável, mesmo guardados.

Procurando no Google, encontrei algumas receitas de como fazer sachês para roupeiro. A ideia é muito simples (e você já deve ter percebido que sou uma mulher prática e de ideias simples): bolinhas de mandioca, essas de sagu, aromatizante e bicarbonato de sódio – para ajudar a secar.

Fiz alguns para testar e ficaram ótimos: cheirosos e bem sequinhos, perfeitos para distribuir em todas as minhas caixas de tecidos!

Então, montei um conjunto e dei para uma amiga querida, que me acompanha nas descobertas do patchwork desde os primeiros tempos.

Algum tempo depois, uma outra amiga que está para casar resolveu fazer uma festinha de despedida de solteira (na verdade, era um Chá de Lingerie). Então, para ajudar nos preparativos, fiz uma porção de sachês perfumados para ser distribuído a todas as meninas que iriam à festa – assim, elas deixariam suas roupas íntimas ainda mais cheirosas. Coloquei-os dentro de um vidro e decorei com uma fitinha bem colorida.

Simples assim! E lá fomos todas para a festa. Nos divertimos horrores e, no final, cada uma voltou para casa um pouco mais perfumada!

Months ago, we went to a new restaurant that opened recently here in our city. The place is very cozy, with low lighting and very tastefully decorated. It’s so cool how the environment has been created that causes immediate empathy in those who visit the place.

Among the various decorations items that on the walls of the restaurant, the one which most drew my attention was a frame with a fabric I have. Indeed, it was not a framework – but a quilting hoop.

Obviously that on the next day I went searching for quilting hoops to do something similar. The first I found was made of wood, but had an inconvenient screw that takes out some of the piece’s aesthetic sense. Then I got a more modern version, made of plastic, and finally at the third attempt I bought a model without screws, made only two wood circles.

Once you have all the necessary tools it is so easy to prepare the frames that I don’t dare calling it a technique. It consists only in choosing a beautiful printed fabric, extend it in the hoop and set it right, to leave the fabric well stretched. Combined with another frame, gives a special touch to any environment and serves as a beautiful gift.

Meses atrás, fomos a um novo restaurante que abriu recentemente aqui em nossa cidade. O lugar é bem aconchegante, com pouca iluminação e com uma decoração de muito bom gosto. É tão bacana o modo como o ambiente foi criado que provoca empatia imediata em quem visita o lugar.

Dentre os diferentes enfeites que revestem as paredes do restaurante, o que mais chamou minha atenção foi um quadro com um tecido que tenho. Na verdade, não era um quadro – e, sim, um bastidor.

É claro que no dia seguinte já saí em busca de bastidores para fazer algo semelhante. Os primeiros que achei eram de madeira, mas tinham um incoveniente parafuso que tira um pouco do senso estético da peça. Depois encontrei um modelo mais moderno, feito em plástico, e finalmente na terceira tentativa consegui um modelo sem parafusos, composto apenas por dois círculos em madeira.

Tento todos os materiais, a confecção dos quadros é tão fácil que nem mesmo sei se pode se chamar de técnica. Consiste apenas em escolher um belo tecido estampado, estender no bastidor e fixar bem, para deixar o tecido bem esticado. Combinado com outro bastidor, dá um toque especial a um ambiente e serve como um belo presente.
