One of these weekends, I made a little party here at home with my best friends – guess what – I was way over myself. Whether telling stories for the girls, or attending the games, I end up exaggerating on the Gentleman Jack and I woke up the other day with a great hangover.

As my husband was traveling on business, I had to appeal to my mother in law – who had also gone to a party and was in a situation like mine. Besides taking care of me, that Saturday we started talking about craft projects (once the headache has passed and we were allowed to speak in a tone above whispers.

We look for some patterns over the Internet and started experimenting. Merged some yoyo flowers with other items to compose necklaces. The process is very simple and just have a little imagination to make a simple and beautiful composition.

It was a beautiful afternoon in which we cure the hangover and discover new ways to give life to yoyos.

Num fim de semana desses, fiz uma festinha aqui em casa com minhas melhores amigas e – tcharam – passei da conta. Seja contando histórias para as meninas ou participando das brincadeiras, acabei exagerando na dose do meu Gentleman Jack e acordei no outro dia com uma bela ressaca.

Como meu marido estava viajando a trabalho, tive de apelar para a minha sogra – que também tinha ido a uma festa e estava em uma situação parecida com a minha. Além de cuidar de mim, naquele sábado começamos a falar de projetos de artesanato (logo que a dor de cabeça passou e nos permitiu falar em um tom acima dos sussurros).

Procuramos alguns modelos pela Internet e começamos a experimentar. Mesclamos algumas flores de fuxico com outros adereços para compor os colares. O processo é bem simples e basta ter um pouco de imaginação para fazer uma composição simples e bela.

Foi uma bela tarde em que conseguimos curar a ressaca e descobrir novas formas de dar vida ao patchwork.

Since I’ve started sewing I spend almost every holidays on a new project.

It is only longer breaks that I have the opportunity to pick a pattern, select the fabrics and complete the whole project before getting back to work. Also I usually have my parents over for long weekends, so I can count on my mom’s help on these projects.

On the last Children’s Day me and my mother picked very warm colored fabrics to sew a classic teddy bear. The pattern itself wasn’t so hard to sew but putting all parts together turn out to be a challenging puzzle.

Besides giving the bear a modern look these colors are very attractive for babies. A big hit!

Desde que eu comecei a costurar, gasto quase todos os feriados em um novo projeto.

É somente em folgas mais longa que tenho a oportunidade de escolher um molde, separar os tecidos e concluir todo o projeto antes de voltar ao trabalho. Normalmente, eu também recebo meus pais para finais de semana prolongados, assim possa contar com a ajuda da minha mãe nestes projectos.

No último Dia das Crianças eu e minha mãe escolhemos alguns tecidos coloridos para costurar um ursinho clássico. O molde em si não foi tão difícil de costurar, mas colocar todas as partes juntas acabou sendo um quebra-cabeça desafiador.

Além de dar um tom mais moderno para este modelo, essas cores são muito atraentes para os bebês. Sucesso garantido!

One of these days me and other two colleagues went to work wearing purple sweaters. It looked like we had them made to be matching! The three of us could form a singing trio…

So when I decided to make a gift for one of them I was certain that it had to be something purple. Because she dresses very sober I made her a very delicate pin with a different type of yoyo flower.

Although it is very fashionable to wear flowers nowadays she never tried it on. Unfortunately you can’t always get it right

Um dia desses eu e outras duas colegas fomos trabalhar vestindo blusas roxas. Parecia que tinhamos combinado de propósito! Como se nós três fossemos um trio musical…

Então, quando eu decidi fazer um presente para uma delas eu tinha certeza que tinha que ser algo roxo. Porque ela se veste muita sóbria eu fiz broche muito delicado, com um tipo diferente de flor de fuxico.

Embora atualmente esteja muito na moda vestir flores ela nunca o experimentou. Infelizmente não é possível acertar sempre : (

After the success of the roses surprise , another friend demanded something similar for her birthday.

She said she wanted exactly the same gift, including the color. But because I do not like to repeat projects and prefer to try something new, I decided to make another type of lilac flower.

In addition to innovation in the type of flower, I also chose to use a larger vase and made the flowers more elongated. Now, wherever I  am I always pay attention in the flower vases. There are many variations to try and more friends to please

Depois do sucesso da surpresa de rosas, fui intimada a fazer algo similar para o aniversário de outra amiga.

Ela disse que queria exatamente igual, inclusive da mesma cor. Mas como não gosto de repetir os projetos e prefiro experimentar algo novo, decidi fazer outro tipo de flor lilás.

Além de inovar no tipo de flor, optei também por usar um vaso maior e fazer as flores mais alongadas. Agora onde vou sempre presto atenção nos vasos de flores. Existem ainda muitas variações para experimentar e mais amigas para agradar

With the holidays approaching I realized how many crafts I could finish in the last months. Not bad for a year when I changed jobs and was almost a month out on business trips.

I also realized that more than 80% of my projects were devoted to family and friends. There would be nothing wrong with that, if I had already decorated our house. As this is not so, I decided that in 2010 I will dedicate myself to our home.

Today every room in the house already has at least one of my arts. Simple projects like these shelves – an idea I took from a magazine and found more references on the web.

The truth is that there are so many possibilities that often I prefer to make a gift to choose something for myself.

Com o final de ano se aproximando eu percebi quantos trabalhos manuais consegui concluir. Nada mal para um ano em que troquei de emprego e fiquei quase um mês em viagem de trabalho.

Percebi também que mais de 80% dos meus projetos foram dedicados a família e amigos. Não haveria nada de errado com isso, se eu já tivesse decorado nossa casa. Como não é bem assim, resolvi que em 2010 vou me dedicar ao nosso lar.

Hoje cada cômodo da casa já possui pelo menos uma de minhas artes. Projetos simples como estes nichos – idéia que tirei de uma revista e busquei mais referências na web.

A verdade é que existem tantas possibilidades que muitas vezes prefiro fazer um presente a escolher algo pra mim mesma.

It’s Christmas! So instead of posting another one of my gifts, I decided to share something I got from a very special friend.

I’ve told here how she played an important role when I started to sew. It was for her that made my first patchwork project: a glasses holder very easy to make - after all, I was only a beginner. Unfortunately I have no pictures of this project, but it end up being very similar to the model of the magazine, because at that time I did not risked much in combinations.

Soon she also started sewing and we began to share magazines, fabrics, etc.. For my birthday, she returned the gift with a beautiful star cushion -it looks easy but I know it is one very hard to make! So beautiful! And it matched with my old quilt … just perfect.

É Natal! Por isso, ao invés de fazer um post com mais um de meus presentes, resolvi mostrar algo que ganhei de uma amiga muito especial.

Já contei aqui como ela teve um papel importante quando comecei a costurar. Foi para ela que fiz meu primeiro projeto em patchwork: um porta-óculos de dificuldade fácil – afinal, eu era principiante. Infelizmente não tenho fotos deste projeto, mas ficou bastante parecido com o modelo da revista, pois na época ainda não arriscava muito nas combinações.

Pouco tempo depois ela também já estava costurando e começamos a compartilhar revistas, tecidos, etc.  No meu aniversário, ela retribuiu o presente com uma linda almofada de estrela – parece fácil, mas sei que é bem difícil de fazer! Muito linda! E ainda combinou com minha colcha… simplesmente perfeita.

Winter was almost over when my housekeeper’s baby had for months.

As a gift for his Christening I tried to make a gift that could be used when his mammy come back to work. Something that his sister could use to distract him when he misses mammy.

I’ve picked a handmade puppet glove project from one of mine baby magazines. The projected comprised the glove creation, but there are other variations that use an existing one.

Now she only needs to learn how to tell the story of the Three Little Bigs.

O inverno já estava terminando quando o bebê de minha empregada fez 4 meses.

Para seu batizado me preocupei em prepar um presente que fosse útil para quando a mãe voltasse ao trabalho. Algo que sua irmã podesse usar para distraí-lo quando ele sentisse falta da mãe.

Escolhi o projeto de uma luvinha fantoche feito a mão de uma de minhas revistas de bebê. O projeto incluía a criação da luva, mas existem outras variações utilizando uma luva pronta.

Agora ela só precisa aprender a contar a história dos 3 porquinhos.

I’ve made a lot of  gifts this year. While a couple of friends are having babies, other are getting married.

Because I was very busy at work I didn’t have time to make another quilt.  So I had to pick a quicker project but with a touch of sophistication.

After hours going through all my magazines I found a different placemat project combining the traditional Nine Patch block with the Seminole technique. In my opinion it looks much better than the magazine.

As a final touch I used the beautiful backing fabric to trim a box and put the placemat set.

Fiz muitos presentes este ano. Enquanto alguns amigos ganharam bebe, mas outros estão casando.

Como a coisa ficou agitada no trabalho, não tive tempo de fazer outra colcha. Por isso, tive que escolher um projeto mais rápido mas com um toque de sofisticação.

Depois de horas procurando em minhas revistas, encontrei um projeto de jogo americano bem diferente, combinando o tradicional bloco Nine Patch com a técnica Seminole. Na minha opinição ficou muito mais bonito que a revista.

Como toque final, usei o lindo decido do verso para forrar uma caixa e colocar todo o jogo americano.

Once my neighbor saw the little bed I made for my cats she asked me to make some for her dogs. Of course I agreed immediately, but then I remembered that she has a big Labrador.

She wanted to pay for the material, but because she never let me pay for her veterinary consultations, I wanted to give a special treat for her dogs: a super king size bed.

Of course they loved it, but I think I’ll have to make another one for the little one because he took over.

Assim que minha vizinha viu a caminha que eu tinha feito para meus gatos ela pediu que fizesse uma para os cachorros dela. Claro que eu concordei de imediato, mas depois lembrei que ela tem um enorme labrador.

Ela queria pagar pelo material, mas como nunca me deixa pagar pelas consultas veterinárias, fiz questão de presentear os cachorrinhos com uma cama super king size.

Claro que eles adoraram, mas acho que vou ter que fazer mais uma para o pequeno, porque ele tomou conta.

While I don’t have the courage to have my own children I keep making gifts for the child of  friends.

I had made a baby sling version for boys when I finally had the opportunity to make a sling for a girl.

Such a cute girl, and a very fashionable one. She resembles my goddaughter as a baby – at that time she did not get a sling, because I had no sewing skills then.

Enquanto não tenho coragem de ter filhos sigo fazendo presentes para o filho dos outros.

Já tinha feito um baby sling versão para meninos quando finalmente tive a oportunidade de fazer um sling para uma menina.

Uma fofura de menina, além de muito fashion. Ela lembra muito minha afilhada quando era bebê – na época ela não ganhou um sling, pois eu ainda não tinha dotes de costureira.
