Besides my grandmothers, my mother had a great influence on my love for sewing. When I started to feel more secure with my work, I decided to thank her with a purse. Because I also inherited from her the pickiness for gifts, I let her choose the pattern and fabric for the for Mother’s Day project!

The choice was a simple project from one of my magazine with the Log Cabin block. Furthermore, during the difficult task of combi1ning harmony fabrics in shades of purple and lilac, my mother understood why it is necessary to have a variety of “pieces of fabric”.

The four blocks form a kind of “envelope”: the tips are bent toward the center of the piece to a different effect. As final touch, I used a decorative stitch and a kitty pendant. My mother left proud showing everybody the bag I made her!

Além de minhas avós, minha mãe teve grande influencia em meu gosto por costura. Por isso, quando comecei a me sentir mais segura dos meus trabalhos, resolvi agradecê-la com uma bolsa. Como também herdei dela a exigência para presentes, deixei que escolhese o modelo e tecidos do projeto para o Dia das Mães!

A escolha foi um projeto simples de uma de minhas revista com o bloco Cabana de Toras. Por outro lado, durante a difícil tarefa de combinar armonicamente os tecidos em tonalidades roxo e lilás, minha mãe percebeu porque é necessário ter uma grande variedade de “retalinhos”.

Os quarto blocos formam uma espécie de “envelope”: as pontas foram dobradas em direção ao centro da peça para dar um efeito diferente. Para finalizar, usei um ponto decorativo  e um pingente de gatinho. Minha mãe saiu toda orgulhosa mostrando a todos a bolsa que fiz pra ela!

As any woman, I have a fixation for purses. I love having different types and textures so I can choose which best fits with my mood of the day. Therefore, as soon as I began my venture into the world of patchwork, I looked into specialized magazines to find out how to make handbags of different models and sizes.

Before starting a new project, I usually search for the step by step instructions in different magazines. Thus, normally I decide to modify or combine them to create something “unique”. However, not always this “unique” impetus works for a beginner in the world of patchwork.

Because I LOVE red, which is one of the fabric colors I have the most, my first bag had to be a basic compound of red and white. After carefully choosing the prints and following my adapted project, something went wrong when I tried to attach the ends of bag bottom.

Even not ending how I had planned, the result was worth the learning. After all, the best of having patchwork as a hobby is not to be obligated to follow a very strict specification and be able to experiment.

Como toda mulher, tenho uma fixação por bolsas. Adoro ter diferentes tipos e texturas para então escolher a que melhor se encaixa com o meu humor naquele dia. Por isso, quando comecei a me aventurar no mundo do patchwork, logo procurei o auxílio de revistas especializadas para descobrir como fazer bolsas de diferentes modelos e tamanhos.

Antes de iniciar um novo projeto, tenho o hábito de olhar o passo-a-passo em várias revistas. Assim, normalmente  decido modificá-las ou combiná-las para criar algo “único”. Entretanto, nem sempre este ímpeto pelo diferente funciona para uma iniciante no mundo do patchwork.

Como adoro vermelho – aliás, é uma das cores de tecido que tenho mais variedades -, minha primeira bolsa tinha de ser composta basicamente por vermelho e branco. Depois de escolher com cuidado as estampas e seguir meu projeto adaptado, algo deu errado quando fui juntar as extremidades do trabalho.

Mesmo não tendo ficado como eu havia planejado, a experiência valeu pelo aprendizado. Afinal, o melhor de ter o patchwork como um hobby é não ser obrigada a seguir uma especificação muito rígida e poder soltar a imaginação.
